Richland County is home to nearly 121,00 Ohioans, located in North Central Ohio. With multiple state parks, an internationally known motorsports complex, The Ohio State Reformatory (filming site of ‘The Shawshank Redemption), and Ohio’s first Ski Resort (Snow Trails) – it is a tourism and recreational hub for the region. With a deep history in agriculture and manufacturing, Richland is known as a community of “makers”. With two hospitals in the county, healthcare is the second-largest employer and a vibrant retail and service economy third.
Covering just under 500 square miles, Richland county includes 10 municipalities, hosting 9 public school systems and 3 private schools. Mansfield City Schools boasts a Blue Ribbon Spanish Immersion Elementary and the Springmill STEM Elementary. STEM programs exist throughout the county: Crestview High has a STEM Ag as well as Aeronautics, Lexington and Ontario have developed Robotics and Engineering Curriculum. Madison and Mansfield Comprehensive High Schools have developed Medical curriculum that promotes graduates who leave with Industry Certified Credentials. North Central State College and Ohio State Mansfield are both located in Richland County. Both offer multiple degree programs that serve out local workforce needs. Both Pioneer and Madison Adult Career programs offer skill and trade credentialing for adult students.
