Summary
Hord Farms is now looking for students passionate about swine production and environmental compliance to join our team in 2024! Spend time learning about the basics of swine production, bio-security SOP auditing, and Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) site assessment protocols. This position will work closely with both internal compliance and production teams to answer questions and audit processes for producers and production leadership. Interested candidates must be committed to high standards of quality and accuracy and will be trained and certified through the PQA field endorsement.
What to Expect:
This opportunity offers some flexibility on timing to accommodate student schedules and can be discussed in the interview. Please note: students must not currently own or have contact with non-Hord pigs for the duration of the internship. Interns will:
- Conduct PQA site assessments to evaluate animal care practices on farmsThis includes reviewing records, animal well-being and facilities and equipment conditions
- Evaluate exterior and interior bio-security protocols and practices
- Develop and help implement corrective action plans as necessary
- Engage in professional and personal development opportunities to broaden your communication, interpersonal, and technical skills

Experience/Certification Required:
What we’re looking for:
- Incoming junior or senior college students currently pursuing a degree in agriculture/animal science
- Candidates who have at least 2 years of swine experience and a solid understanding of bio-security protocols
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills, as this individual frequently communicates with production team members and growing partners
- Excellent attention to detail
- A valid driver's license and clean driving record are a must
- A high level of respect shown to team members and animals
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Impeccable record of reliability/dependability

Salary/Benefits:
Candidates will earn $16/hour and should be prepared to work a flexible schedule. Expect to work 45 hours/week on average.
